Default distributor questions

Im switching a 91' 4.9l from efi to carb. I was hoping that my distributor from my 83'4.9l would fit, but it dont. Does anyone know what brand/where to buy a distributor that fits? grrrrrrr

You planning on deleteing the ECU?

Not a question of swapping the drive gears on the distributors?

Why wont it fit? You might be able to convert your dist to a duraspark just look inside and see if the bosses are there to hold down the duraspark pickup coil, also did you crank the engine a little to set the oil pump drive?

Thanks for the info guys! When I placed the 83' distributor in the 91' engine, there was about an inch left. Should I get rid of the ecu? what aare 'bosses' sorry its been over 20 yrs since i rebuilt and engine in shop in high school, so im kinda relearnin. I want to keep things simple on this truck.

No, I will not keep the ECU. Getting rid of everything I can and keep it simple carb. Although, things I replace I want to replace with quality and/or performance. Ex. Im putting on headers, upgrading the carb (right now just a 1bbl).

Bosses are where the screws would go for the duraspark pickup, my big block efi dist has the holes where the duraspark pickup would go but is using only one for the efi pip, also is the newer dist physically longer?

DUI is pretty good, alot of racers use them, but if you do go with DUI and put an HEI gm type dist in your Ford we will ban you.

Do you have the high pressure pump in the tank or the low/ high pump set up? You can't run the carb straight off the fi system too much pressure for it. They make a regulator for this swap to use the high pressure pumps but you'll need to have a bigger return line to the tank.
