Default cut my finger on while working on engine

i have a 1988 f150 v8 and the guy i bought it from kinda trashed the engine. so i was working on it and my hands were super black and stuff and i cut my finger with a knife pretty deep i know my knife wasnt super dirty and not rusty. it was a few days ago and my finger is starting to heat up alot. i normally dont care about cuts but i just dont want to get some weird **** from the engine infecting my finger and i finished working on it after i cut it so i just wanna know if i shouldnt worry about it or if i should get it checked out

You joined the truck forum to ask if you should go to the doctor to get a probably infected wound treated?

Seriously!

If it swells up you have an infection...Bacteria within the dirty grease got into your blood stream...If your finger starts to swell and red line starts going up your arm you need to go see a doctor ASAP... They will most likely have to cut it back open to drain it out and clean the infection. Then put you on high doses of antibiotics

i would take your dirty knife, chop off your finger past the infection site, wrap the **** in a dirty greasy cloth, like the one you use for your oil changes.
then take the end that you chopped off, throw in a bucket of antifreeze (to stop it from "dying") and take everything with you to the hospital. they should be able to suture it back together.

otherwise, I'm at a loss, really. or you could try to caterize (?) the wound by letting your truck warm up good and putting your finger on the hot exhaust manifold. the heat should kill the bad bacteria.

(disclaimer, just in case, given the level of this post: DO NOT F***IN DO ANY OF THIS and go to the hospital right away... sorry, I felt I really had to add this...)

in all seriousness, most times a little grease on a wound wont do anything. you just wipe it, or lick it off and spit it out, and you're good. 1 out of 100 times, it will lead to an infection just like you have.

Get some anti biotic cream on the wound and a bandage (tea tree oil is also good) keep putting fresh anti biotic on it and if it hasn't started clearing up by morning, go to emerg and get a prescription for oral antibiotics.
Do not ignore an infection - it will not just go away by itself. You should also get a tetanus shot if you don't know when the last one you got was.
I know some people will make fun of you for not knowing - but don't fool around. You don't want to be that guy.
Take it seriously, go to a doctor if it doesn't start clearing up with cream in a day and then it will be a nothing. Ignore it and it will be a something.
