Cruise Control?
I have a 1996 4x4 that I can't get the cruise control to work. I replaced all the fuses that I could find and I just ran out of ideas on how to get it to work. The cruise is the only electrical part of my truck that doesn't work. I heard that the cruise control was disabled in this year truck because of a frie hazard problem. This would explain why its the only thing not working.
Is there a way I can get it to work? I would like to have it seeing as I do quite a bit of interstate driving.

I've had the same issue for a while, I mess with it from time to time when I get a chance. I started with the fuses too and started trobleshooting, making sure everything had power and what not. I replaced the module that bolts to the quarter panel, next to the master cylinder with a junk yard one, but it didn't work. I'm assuming that the one from the junk yard is bad too because there isn't much to a cruise control system.
I was thinking about the clock spring too but since my horn and air bag work, I don't think that is the problem. Also when I push the set button while driving, I hear a rely click which tells me that the controls on the steering wheel work. Bottom line is that I think it is that module but for $200+ for a new one, I'm okay without cruise control!
Oh and looking at that picture that flareside posted, by module I mean "speed control servo".
Just giving my thoughts, if anyone knows for sure I would sure appreciate the input!

Stop by your local library and look for a Mitchell domestic light truck and van manual for your year. It will have several pages of troubleshooting sequences for the specific cruise system in your vehicle, including electrical measurements of each component, etc. It's pretty easy to folow and will allow you to pinpoint the trouble spot exactly rather than throwing parts at it. I buy a Mitchell book for all my vehicles, typically they're available on eBay or Amazon for about the same price as a Haynes book in the stores, but are infinitely more valuable.

I'm having the SAME exact problem. Fuses are good, everything works fine, cept the CC.
The guy I bought it from a few months ago said "It was working a few weeks ago when I left the house, and then it suddenly went out".
I can't find anything wrong with it, yet...
