Default Control Arms?

My girlfriend has a 1993 F150 4x4. Its got 150xxx miles and the only thing wrong with it is the previous owner hit a small deer on the passenger side of the truck. There's nothing major wrong with it, the headlight is cracked and the bumper and fender have a couple small dents. But a couple weeks ago i noticed the right front fender was about an inch and a half from the tire. I crawled under it and couldn't really see what was wrong,(no jack, etc.) But her dad took it to a buddy's garage and they jacked it up and took the front tire off and he's saying it was the thing over the coil spring(control arm?) that had rusted out, and the spring was pushing up through it. He said it looked welded on somehow...

First of all, i'm no mechanic. I got a mustang and i've worked on it, but i've never been schooled on it lol...

But is that accurate? would the control arm, if that's what ya call it, be welded on?

Also how hard is it to change the control arm, and how costly is it? i've checked at a couple parts stores and they don't even list control arms for a 93 f150.....

Thanks!

There are no control arms on an F150. At least not until 1997 and up. Anyway, it sounds like you need a new upper spring cup. I'm guessing your talking about the piece that the top of the spring goes in and where the top of the shock bolt to. If so, you can try looking it up on LMCtruck.com or NPD.com both have vast inventories of parts for these F150's. Otherwise, you may need to take it to a frame shop to get fixed or if your crafty enough, cut one off one at a junkyard and try welding it on.

Although, It's hard to believe that it is bent from a front end collision. More commonly, I'd think you may have bent the I Beam or a radius arm or radius arm mount. The I Beam is the part that the wheel spindle, springs, shocks and radius arms all bolt to. It's the main part of the independant suspension on these trucks.

well it was rusted up in there, you can see that easily. so i thought maybe the collision might have bent it where it had rusted...

but anyways thanks for the help! i appreciate every bit of it.
