Connected? Speedo/odometer/cruise/int & cargo lights - all dead

Usually the speedo, odometer, od are on the same fuse, there might be a problem with the feed.

Connections appear to be solid. I did find two empty connectors:
1. is a gray rectangle - female - with 7 wires - hanging down from the centre area of the dash - it is a factory connector
2. is a 6 prong male fastened to the dash - right in front of the shifter

How does the rear axle speed sensor (VSS?) play into the circuit? If the sensor is shot, would both speedo & odometer be dead?
