Codes
262 = not in both of code books. probably not your problem.
817 = not in both of code books. probably not your problem.
538 = insufficient rpm change during KOER dynamic spark test
OR invalid cylinder balance test(Check engine compression)
OR Check Throttle position( unplug the tps Top wire in the harness to the tps sensor should have approx 5 volts input out of the harness. then the other two wires one is ground and the other is output back to pcm. make sure the output wire is at around .5 volt(half of one volt) Then as you increase the throttle the voltage should increase slowly. If there is any intermittent voltages replace the tps.
OR this can also be operator eror. (on certain vehicle when you run the test if you dont do a certain thing while your doing the test it will throw this code. After you connect the scanner. The red light blinks 3 times for inline 6 automatic you have to push the brake and turn the over drive off after the light blinks three times. Then followed by a 1 blink push the gas pedal to the floor briefly. then the light should flash on and off very quickly. Then you get your codes.
632 = overdrive switch not push no switch action detected( this is what i was talking about for code 538 when the light blinks 3 times you have to push the brake and push the over drive off button.. then you should get a 1 flash of the check engine light. when you get this flash floor the truck briefly. then you get your codes. Some even have a power steering pressure switch and you have to turn the steering wheel back and forth a couple of times.
My suggestion to you is run a compression check and write down each cylinder compression. If there is a cylinder that take 3 to five compression strokes to get to 100 to a 110 or so there is your problem. pour a little oil in that cylinder the compression should go way high. if it does go high you have ring problems if it stays pretty close to the same you have blown head gasket, valve problems something in that nature. good luck
