Code 12 & rough idle connection?
I agree, compression tests are well worth it. Will do that next.
Forgot to mention, as the scanner runs through the tests during KOER (which I know it does timing test, egr functions, etc) it changes something that clears up the miss and allows it to run perfect for about 30 seconds. After the tests, it's back to missing (putt, putt,putt). I also tried blocking the EGR hole to the intake to resolve any vacuum leaks, still no change. I'm going to push this guy into getting new ignition tune up parts...cap, rotor, wires plugs. He could be running around in circles if he doesn't replace old stuff that should have been changed as part of a normal tune up. He's also been running without a thermostat because of an overheating problem. I should throw one of those in there too. I can only do so much since it's not my truck and not my money that's being spent on it (which only has been about $70 by the way...not too bad in my opinion). Could the code 46 (air bypass in the thermactor) be causing a problem perhaps? I need to do some more reading up on that stuff.

Does removing the SPOUT Plug clean up the Idle?
Removing the SPOUT plug does not clean up the idle. I thought at one time perhaps the ignition system was stuck in the "test" mode but I can see the timing mark advancing with a timing light as we rev the engine (with spout plug in).
I tried repairing the vacuum canister as it had rusted out like most of them do, this may help with the code 46, something about the air injection bypass. I don't think this is part of our idle problem, but I do like to remove as many codes as I can. I'm not giving up yet....this thing won't get fixed without perseverance.
