Clutch Problems
I just bought a '95 4.9L 5 speed and my clutch is pissin me off. While driving, I push in the clutch and sometimes it won't come back up, it'll just stick to the floor. Then usually the truck stalls, I gotta yank on the shifter to get it out of gear, start it back up, pump the clutch like crazy, then I'll be able to drive it a few miles before it does it again. Also, sometimes when I'm sitting at a stop light, I'll have the clutch to the floor, then all of sudden the truck just stalls out, and it does the same thing. It's obvious I'm loosing my clutch pressure, but why? Does it sound like an air issue, a master cylinder issue? I haven't troubleshooted the problem yet since the truck is up in the air right now for new u joints and bearings in the front, but I need to get this clutch problem fixed immediately. Any help here guys? fyi, The previous owner said he just put a new clutch and slave in. I called the previous owner and he said to just drive it and the air should just make it's way out of the system. I'm calling b.s. on that.
You will need to bleed the air out of the clutch system, my 83 would occasionally stick down but that was a different problem that you will never have. My 83 would bind on the extension housing and not release the clutch, this was only a problem on the early 6.9 and 7.5 with the external slave cylinder.
