Tps did it. Idle stays at 800 - 900, no more bouncing around. Shifts are smoother, I suspect mpg will improve slightly. Thanks for the help, hopefully someone who needs help well find this thread. On to other problems now, ha ha.

thanks for this post alnen. i've learned alot. i've got the same issue with the idle surging up and down but my issue comes AFTER i replaced the tps with a new (cheap) tps and also iacv. is there something tricky to replacing the tps? something about setting the tps properly? if anyone has the thread for this let me know. hopefully i can settle this crazy idle soon. thanks-

Yes, you have to adjust it - can't just throw it on. I just posted "testing the tps" the other day. All the info is there.
