it is legal to replace your stock cats with a single high flow cat...about $60-120 on summitracing.com. even a normal cat (non "high flow") would definitely be a step up from stock.

about the y pipe, i want to just cut it off at the cat and go to a little shop and tell them to weld up a merge pipe so i can run a single 3" pipe. from there i am probably going to run a gutted cat to a flowmaster 10 si/do and dump before rear tire with some big tips.

To update my e-mail conversation with the seller (who seems very reasonable & helpful at the moment), here goes:

My first contact:
I received my exhaust manifold very quickly, thank you. However, the new manifold was already cracked when I opened the package. Obviously this will not be useful to me. I would like a new one, how should we proceed from here? Thanks again.

Their first response:
Good day! First of all, thank you for placing your order with us.

Please accept our apology if you received a damaged part. May we know the condition of the box the time you received the package under Order Number #######. Is there any sign of tampering? Is the box crushed, has a hole, etc? We need the information for us to know if the part was damaged in transit. May we also ask you to give us a brief description of the extent of the cracked part.

Please feel free to email us back and we are glad to assist you more.

Best Regards!

Sincerely,
[Seller Name]

My first response:
The box had a few corners that were slightly crushed, but nothing out of the ordinary. Unfortunately I did not save the packaging because I didn't notice the crack until a while later. The cracked part is on the beveled flange that seats against the factory Y-pipe, in other words the outlet of the manifold. The crack is about 1.25" long. It looks like the seat may have been banged against another hard object. This is a major concern because the outlet is now slightly out-of-round, which means it may seat properly. If it lets any oxygen in, it will burn up the new catalytic converter I plan to install at the same time. Also, being in direct contact with exhaust gasses, the manifold will be subject to extreme heating and cooling cycles, so I suspect that the crack would spread quickly. I have photos available if you need them, but in my opinion the part is not useable or sellable. Either a full refund or a new replacement would be a suitable remedy. Thank you for your help.

It seems like the ball is rolling. If they refund the purchase, I'll think long and hard about headers (again). If the replace the part, I'll go ahead as planned. If they give me any grief, I'll just have to take them on, .

Any reason I can't run this one:

My GVWR is slightly over the 6000 lb figure they mentioned, but I don't run fully loaded very often. Also, my engine size is well below the 5.9 L limit.

Forget the Y-pipe, if I didn't already have 3" pipe cat-back I'd go this route:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...#ht_1067wt_936

No-name brand, but seller & parts look legit.

Don't know, but for $50 I'd say it's a worthwhile gamble. I'll raise you $50 that it works better than stock, haha. If you are dead-set on a splitter muffler, the same seller has several options for going form single 3" to dual 2.5s or 2.25s. Just seems like redundancy of effort to me.

^ those FlowSound parts look a lot like Cherry Bomb's non-glasspack stuff, FYI.

yeah i guess its kind of redundant. i found my flowmaster 10 knock off for $20 cheaper than the real one. what i was originally planning on doing.

Also, why the hollowed out cat? Is it just for a visual emissions inspection?
