check engine light doesn't light up on my '96 F150 XLT 5.0 ltr.engine, when I turn ignition switch on or start up engine. Don't want to pull the cluster to replace a blown bulb if there could be another reason its not working. My son suggested I disconnect a sensor to see if that makes it light up. Does anyone think that is a good idea? If so, which sensor is easy to get at and likely to make the light work?

 

Pull the vac line from the MAP sensor.

Yep. Sound's like the bulb. Here in Calimexifornia, that's enough to fail Smog test before they even test exhaust output.
