Default Charging problems

Well I just bought a 94 f150 ext cab long bed 4x4 with a 5.8 and noticed a problem with the alternator. On my way home from buying it it wasn't charging then I got within a half mile from home hit a bump and it started charging. Then today I went to start it and it was charging for about 2 mins then quit again. Does any body know what could be causing this. Also the alternator was replaced about a month before I bought it.

Since the alternator was replaced recently, I would question the PO if he changed the alternator for the same issue. Also, did you notice the battery light and/or battery voltage gauge dropping?
First thing is always do a visual inspection. Also, check battery posts and cable terminals for clean and tight connections. Check the connection at the alternator output (10mm nut on the alternator), the regulator connection and engine ground. Also check the connection at the load distribution point (starter relay/solenoid) on the passenger inner fender. Make sure that you don't have a broken connector on the stator wire - (white/black wire in a single connector) on the back of alternator
Check the belt and the tension. Check the fuses/fuse links and wiring to the alternator to make sure they are not burnt or damaged which can cause high resistance or open circuit which can cause an intermittent charging problem.
You can always have your alternator tested at the local parts store. It should still be under warranty? If I was in your position and the alternator turned out to be the issue then I would upgrade the 95 amp alternator to the 130 amp:

Original alternator died completely and all connections seem to b good and tight. Could it be a faulty alternator seeing as it'll start charging again if key is turned off and on really quick.

I went through 3 new (rebuilt) alternators once several years ago for a car i had.

I would drive it down to your local parts store and let them test everything. They'll do it free at no cost.

I'm with the crew on a faulty alternator... I've even had times where they were bad out of the box. Could have been dropped or mishandled in the time from manufacture to the shelf. It could also be a defect such as a loose wire or bad internal regulator.

When it stops charging ...go tap it with a mallet and see what happens..

Well I figured it out. It was a combo of a faulty alternator and the middle wire on the connector on the alternator was messed up so I bought a new pig tail wile I was at it. I figured I'd post the solution to the problem that way this thread would be useful to someone searching the same problem.
