Default Changing it up 302 to 351

Hey guys, currently i have a 92 f150 with a 302 and an automatic transmission. I want to swap the engine and trans. Really wanting to go with a 351W and a manual transmission also I want to switch it over to a manual transfer case. Ive never don this before so im here to ask you all what transmission/transfer case would be best in your opinion. Thanks in advance.

You will use all the wiring connections from the 302 engine on the 351W...

You can use the factory 302 computer to run the 351W...It may run a little leaner in the upper RPMS and also may throw a code and not run right with the manual transmission.

You should invest in a manual transmission Speed Density computer.. Other then that invest in Mass Air Flow Computer and wiring harness.

You will have to have a 28oz imbalance 351W Harmonic Balancer If I remember correctly. The 5.0L is 50oz imbalance.

You will have to have every thing for the manual transmission....Flywheel, all the way to Driveshaft, FLoor Pedals, Fluid Reservoir ect...

Your best bet would be to find a donor truck that is the same style as yours (i.e. standard cab long bed) that has everything you want and then swap it all over.

If I were doing this I would make sure it was also a MAF conversion so I could do more upgrades.

If I decide to go with an automatic transmission the transmission that's on the 302 will bolt up to the 351 won't it?

Yes it is a direct swap Automatic Trans to Automatic Trans...You will use almost every thing from the 302....

Except:

Distributor- You need a 5.8L Distributor.

Flexplate- you need a 28oz imbalance Flexplate for a 351W...The 302 is 50oz

Harmonic Dampener- You need a 28oz imbalance...The 302 is 50oz

Intake Manifold- You need a upper and lower 5.8L Intake Manifold.

Fuel Rail- You need a 5.8L Fuel rail....My 5.0L one was not long wide enough. Some people don't have issues but I did.

Y-Pipe...The 5.8L Block is wider so you need to widen or put a new Y-pipe on or custom make an exhaust. I went with True Duel Exhaust on my 2wd F-150.

Every thing else is plug in Play. Stock motor mounts will work. Same for Starter and exhaust manifolds.. I recommend putting Long Tube Headers on it.
