Default Changing transmission?

If I have a Mazda m5od 2wd standard transmission in my 96 f150 4.9 i6. What 4x4 transmission will mount up to my engine and will keep my truck a standard?

yep what fordtrucknut said. any of those but your best bet is the mazda or zf5 to keep with your year to find drive shafts and wiring. also you can take them from 300ci 302ci and 351w there all small block bell housings. you just keep your flywheel.

Swapping to a ZF5 requires some work to be done to the transmission's cross-member too (if I remember correctly). Isn't the slave setup a little different too?

if you put anything in other than a M5OD you will have to source the line from the slave to the master because all the other trans have an external slave and the M5OD is an internal,

and drive shafts are not that big a deal, you can have one cut down and balanced for about 100 bucks.

not real sure on the ZF crossmember, I was not lucky enough to find one when i built my truck.... and i've only seen one small block 4x4 ZF, and it was in a shop having a $500 weld job done to it, (split the bell housing down all the way into the case.)

pretty much the same except the t19 has taller gears, and a synchronized 1st gear, and dual pto ports(t18 has a single)

no, they were both found in 1/2, 3/4 and 1ton trucks.
they just redid the gears for better highway driving.
the t18 was built from 1965-1991
the t19 was built from 1968-1991
