I am going to do my shocks in the very near future, I think I'm going to get the monroe gas shocks. They are $16-17 each from Advance Auto parts. I'm sure there's much better shocks out there, but for the amount of use my truck is going to get, I don't want to invest a fortune. Anyone have any experience with these shocks?

call the dealership. They were priced comparably to everything else available when I put a set on my car before replacing them for Konis.

I put Monroe "grande" shocks on my 91 4x4 and love them! around $30 a piece. Definately dont go cheap on shocks with a 4x4 - wont last.

Default Rear shocks on 97 F-150 2WD Std. cab

I can relate to those busted knuckles on the shock jobs, but an old school guy showed me a trick with the rears. Instead of all the hack sawing, flame wrenching and saws alling he simple unbolted them at the rear end mounts and began bending them back and fourth until the shock stud snapped right off clean! it took about 12 to 15 back and fourth bends to get the job done. Amazing, and after all my wasted time over the years hacking on those things in a tight space. 1 hour for the rears. Hope this helps someone save some time and skin! I went with Monroes Spectra shocks. No complaints.
