Default changing gears

Hey guys. What's the technical name for the thing that shows you what gear you are in at the bottom of the guage panel? Mine stay in between drive and neutral all the time no matter what gear I am in. Is it fairly easy to replace this part. Any info wild be well appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Its just a gear indicator or something. I had this problem on my 84, and I had to remove the steering column plastic, and I think part of the dash. There's a little string or cable that gets tugged by the shifter, and on mine the tube that holds the cable was broken, releasing all tension on the string and not moving it. You'll need to remove the plastic off steering column and check it out..that is if its been the same way for this many years.
