Smile Cat Deletion Question

Hello, I want to cut off my cats on put on a Flowmaster Super 10. I was looking at it, and it looks like there are 2 cats. The problem i have is the first one is right below the passenger exhaust manifold. So the first cat has the passenger side exhaust coming down into the cat and the driver said exhaust coming in from the side. Also right before the cat there is a small connecting tube that has the o2 sensor in it. The second cat isn't a problem, but i don't know how i could cut out the first one. Is there a piece i could buy that would fit that? I have some experience on exhaust but not very much. Any help or tips would be appreciated. Also i wouldn't be able to weld anything only clamps Thanks

Leave the first one, it's just a pre-cat and doesn't affect airflow very much, cut it between the pre-cat and the cat and leave yourself enough pipe to attach to.

I'm with FLT -- I cut out the second cat and am happy with the result. Leave the little guy alone -- No reason to cut him out and can be challenging to route around him anyway.

Thank you, I read somewhere about the first one just being a pre-cat before but I wasn't sure. Also leaving that one on I don't have do go over a crossmember(I think that's what it's called).

I recently did this job to my 96 with a 302.
What I did was removed all the exhaust from the muffler forward to the manifolds. Then I replaced the original Y-pipe/cat combo with a Y-pipe for a 1980 model (Walker P/N 40279) and a straight pipe back to the muffler. I had to dent the straight pipe just a little to get it to clear the transmission crossmember. Pipe size is 2.25".
You would have to get a bung welded in for the O2 sensor. Entire job cost me less than $200. Took about a day to do it with a reciprocating saw, grinder and hand tools.
