Default Help!! Please! 92 f150 5.0 m5od-r2

I am having a very similar problem replaced engine, clutch, slave cylinder, and now clutch line and can not get either of the lines (New or the used ones i have out of the truck) into either of the slave cylinders. Used a vernier caliper to measure and they seem to be the exact same, but the new line seems to fit better just refuses to bite and lock in place. Tried replacing the metal retaining ring as well no difference, also tried opening bleeder just ended up with clutch fluid on me though. I have been looking at this forum since I have had the problem, tried all of the ideas am really hoping for something else to work with. I heard of a kit you can buy to adapt the quick release style fitting to a threaded fitting, but not sure if that will clip into place either.

Please help I spent the last two weekends trying to figure this out really want to drive this thing again will be attempting again this weekend.

Thanks for your help

Default Got it

Finally managed to get the stupid thing to fit properly I think. Didn't have a chance to bleed clutch yet but hope fully is all good.

How I did it was I took out the metal retaining ring and put it on the line where it would lock in place and marked it there with a paint pen. After seeing about how far it needed to go in shaved a bit off of the short fingers on the retaining ring and after a couple attempts went in as easily as it was supposed to.

Thanks for the help anyways though lots of great things from this site much appreciated. Hope this helps someone in a similar problem some day.

Hello, Hope you got it going. Me, no, I got this 1997 Ford F150 i have been playing around with so i finally got down to business on the hydraulic system. I ordered a salvage trans from Green Point Auto and was told it was a 2002 4.2 out of a F150. Well, i paid no attention to the cut line being green on the fitting and green on the slave end and i ordered a 2002 line and it would not fit at all. I inserted the green fitting line and it clipped right in so i thought maybe they put a slave in from an earlier year so i ordered a 1997 and it would not fit either. Both Dorman 628-240 and 628-237 would not go in and there were tolerance differences in both lines and my line end fittings up to some extra .000ths. Now, i have to tear the whole damn thing back down just to take a look at the number on the slave to see exactly what year it was. Dorman told me since many of the lines now are made overseas that the machining was off and it was a common complaint to them. I am not sure of anyone that can show me the actual specifications on the end of the line to the slaves or the slave inner dimensions. I did notice that the lines i had was having a different depth level on the release inside the fitting. I also noticed some of the different clips are not the same nor the plastic release is either. I am not sure what to do in my case as i was told by Green Point it was definitely a 2002 but i won't know until i break it down. I got a new line in from Rock Auto and it would not fit but it had corrosion on the end that went into the master cylinder. I told them and they told me to ship it back at my cost so that is my last deal with Rock Auto. Total ripoffs. The only way for a person to be for sure is to order the slave and line together and that is what i think they are up to by mixing the ends up at the factories putting wrong ends on the years they say they lines fit. I give up on this issue and until i break it down i will have to contend with crap but i will most definitely post my findings for a fact so others can feel some understanding about why lines do not fit like they should. By the way, my line was identical to conform to my body design and the others were too but they did not fit. My line end was green and the slave was green on the fittings but Dormans were bright aluminum, no color at all. Any info is welcome. Send me a message.
