Default Cams for a 302....

Im finally done modding my Titan now its time to get back to work on the Ford. I just ordered a 2 inch body lift (to give me 12 inch total on an independant front suspension) from JCWhitney. Im looking into a set of rear ladder bars, only ones I can find are the Tuff Country. But since I added the 38.5x15x15 boggers Ive lost A LOT of get up and go power. I know I have to change gears from 3.50 to 4.10's (trying to find someone to do that cheap) but I was thinking about putting a bigger cam in it. Its a 1991 F150 Nite 4x4, although its a truck I had an 85 mustang 302 put in. It has headers, K&N filter, true duals... but I need more hp. Whats a good size etc Cam to go with? Its not a daily driver and its not a mud truck...its a toy/hunting truck and gets around 2k miles on it a year.

Thanks

with 38.5" tires, your engine must be struggling to get up and go. the 302's like to rev, you'll be happier with a much more aggressive gear swap than if you got a cam. If the engine is from an 85 are you running carbs or EFI?

Personally a gear swap would be my first choice if I were you, and I'd be looking more towards 4.56 or so.

With the 38.5 tires even a 4.10 will be somewhat apathetic in acceleration, you should try 4.30 or even 4.56. To determine the gears that give you the factory performance I believe you take the current gear ratio and divide by the stock tire height in inches then multiply that answer by the new tire height. If you do that you come up with 4.88 which would be the proper gears for factory performance.

The motor turns the tires pretty good but I need/want more. I just got a price from a friend that races dirt tracks to do a gear swap front and rear. My nephew dates his daughter LOL. $150 for the labor of front and rear. I think I am going to go with 4.56's....

Now back to the Cams. I got in touch with a local company that comes Highly recomended from the racing community. Thumper Heads is the company name. I think after talking with them Im going to go with the E303 and a set of E7 ported heads as $$$ comes available...
