Default a/c squeal from dash...

1993 f150 5.0 2wd e4od

Hey guys. I have noticed lately that when I run the a/c there is a mild squeal like a bad bearing or something coming from the dash. It is easier to hear when I shut the truck off w the a/c on and that last few cycles you can hear it shut down and squeal. Yesterday for the first time there was a random high pitch scream that came from the dash. I had a/c on max. When I shut it off, scream stopped (like a loud screetch). It eventually corrected itself, but I know its only gonna get worse. What is this, blower motor?

Good chance it is the blower motor. The bronze bearings go dry and start to squeak. Some of them you can take apart and service, clean the commutator and grease the bearings if they are not bad.

Thanks. Any idea on where the blower motor is? How to get at it? Takedown of dash? Thanks.

Blower motor is accessed under the hood. The blower motor is mounted into the heat-A/C air box between the dryer accumulator and the inner fender where your factory bottle jack and tire iron are stored. The back of the motor points towards the front of the truck. There's a brown or black plug with two wires (either orange and brown or red and black) plugged into it.

You might pull the glove box out, pull the air ducts lose and make sure that you don't have a piece of paper, candy wrapper, etc. inside the blower fan. A piece of paper or plastic will squeal like a bearing. It acts like a reed in a duck call. My last two blower issues came from a candy wrapper in the glove box and a wal-mart grocery receipt. Lose trash in the glove box will get sucked into the blower motor through the intake door on max ac when the door opens and recirculates cabin air. Never hide cash in the glove box! The blower fan will shred a $100 bill and laugh at you as little shreds of it blow out of the vents! My 94 had a wal-mart bag in it when I bought it a few months ago.
