Default A/C compressor pump Help!

I am going to replace my compressor pump soon and was wondering the difficulty.

I know I am going to have to charge it but what are some tips, hints or an opinion if it is even worth the hassle.

I know its winter almost...we have snow here but I need to get this done.

Thanks all

You need to have the system evacuated. The refrigerant is bad for the atmosphere. Check the condition of your seals and hoses. A new compressor often makes new leaks. You will need start up oil. I would recommend taking it to a certified shop for the refill. They can add the right start up oil. And pressure test the system.

Yea ok sounds good but I checked the valve and there is no R-134a left in the system so I don't need it disposed of.

Cool you will still need to create a vaccume before filling. Also there is a flush on the market to clean out old oil and sludge. I've never used it so I don't know how well it works but cleaning the system seems like a good idea. You may also want to switch to the new R12 while your at it. In my opinion its colder. Pluss its cleaner.
