Default A/C Compressor/clutch

In my truck, if i turn the a/c on, i get air coming through the vents, but i hear a 'tick...tick...tick...' and the air isn't cold. i know the clutch is grinding (can hear it when the truck is cranked, and it is loose(can be moved by hand)). I thought about replacing the compressor or clutch but i did some research and found that these problems could be linked to low refrigerant. Does anyone know if this is true? Thanks, Austin.

If the refrigerant level gets low enough the compressor will cycle off and on, maybe your tic-tic-tic. I don't care for those quickie fill kits but throwing in some freon will verify this. If the clutch is blueing from heat then you have a different problem.
