Default a/c

My 96 ford f150, 4.9 - 5 speed, had set for a number of years with little to no use. No that I have it back on the road and completed a lot of necessary repairs its time to address the a/c. My just does not work. I checked the fuse it's fine but the clutch does not kick in, so there is an obvious problem. Does anyone know of a link or previous thread that defines the step by step procedures to diagnose the problems with the A/C? I appreciate your help.

The first thing to do is check the refrigerant charge. The compressor won't kick on if it is low.

Like 77Ranger said if its low it wont kick on if it is good then compressor most likely needs replaced. I don't know if they replace only clutches on those badboys or not..
