Default Fuel Pump Won't Stop Priming

So the wife was getting ready to go to work this morning, started the truck, to let it warm. When she put it in reverse she saw white smoke. I get home this afternoon started it. It idled fine then when I went out to test it sure enough white smoke. I decided to do a jumper test. Test was about to start koeo. Next thing I know the fuel pump would not stop priming. I disconnected the battery let it sit tried again. Fuel pump just continues to prime so the CEL stays on and I can't pull codes. The motor is has about 45,000 miles on it, bought a jasper rebuild 2 1/2 years ago. I know I have a few issues to address any thoughts??

Check fuel pump relay. Might be stuck on. Try wiggle test on the harness. White smoke is usually indicative of water in the exhaust. Good luck man.

Check the ground on the core support forward of the battery...make sure it is clean secure and making good contact.

thanks for the advice yall. got the pump to stop priming. I was able to pull codes after that and got a 33. It has to do with the egr valve. I took it out cleaned out the light carbon build up that was inside. Ran good for a day. The truck is now stumbling again. Brought the egr into the parts store and the guy behind the counter said it looked fine. Baffle still works when vacuum is applied. What else could cause a code 33. I read a 21 page post last nite with someone having similar problems. In the end the still didn't know what they actually did to fix their problem. Any clue as to what i should do next? I plan on pulling the throttle body and IAC tomorrow and giving them a good cleaning.
