Brake controller ?'s
Wired up a new hopkins trailer brake controller. 1994 F150 w/ tow package. I have the wires hooked up right and have tested them with a multi-meter. The brake controller display will light up when I hit the manual button, but will not read when the brake pedal is pressed. Any thoughts?
I had that same problum however it was on a 97 F150 turned out to be a blown fuse in the engine compartment not sure if the 94 has this same fuse or not. It was a 30amp fuse. Hope this helps.

First off - Are you using the factory plug in for the brake controller that is under the dash?
If so, take a test light and ground it.
Next probe the green wire on the truck side or it will be the red wire for the brake controller while hitting the brake.
You should have lights when the pedal is pushed and no lights when it isn't pushed.
The wire codes for the brake controller are this
Blue-Brake feed to the rear of the truck
Black- Fused 12v constant
Red- Stoplight feed this can come from either the trucks factory brake control plug in or from the DEAD(ground) side of the brake switch off the pedal
White-Ground
Oh how I love my job, take it everywhere I go.

Update: I wired up everything correctly. I found out that the brake controller does not work until a trailer is plugged up to the 7 pin connector. All of the brake controllers I have used before, the displays have light up when only the brakes are applied.
