Also, I remember you saying you use M1 10w-40. Why not 5w-40 or 0w-40? Is it outside of your comfort zone? I've heard that M1 0w-40 is one of the world's best motor oils. Just curious as to why not a lower cold viscosity.
Depends on application. Mobil 1 0W-40, European Car Formula (NA) or Protection Formula (EU)

For Short trip driving, not real sure. If you're getting in & driving till your tank's empty, you're good to go w/ it. A Quart of Lucas Synthetic stabilizer would address additional cold start protection though.

Mobil 1's getting pretty cutting edge w/ Synthetic oils nowadays. Hard to go wrong, but I still lean towards intended application as a guide.

Do your own research & find the nominal micron ratings, & Beta ratios for the filters. I prefer to use Baldwin filters myself.

I like Bosch mileage plus, or is it distance plus... I cant remember right now lol. It has a great anti drain back valve which helps the 4.9l from those cold start rattles. Its only got 113,000 miles though

It looks just like the Mobil 1 filter internally. I wouldn't be surprised if the same company made both. At any rate, its a great filter.
