Default Belt tensioner assembly

I put a new belt on and when I rev my truck the belt tensioner slaps up and down pretty hard, sounds like banging 2 pieces of metal together. It didnt do this with previous belt? Is it to weak now and I need to replace it?

Yea the tighter belt is putting tension on it that wasn't there before. A new one should fix it.

Suggest to check all pulleys - P/S pump, alternator, water pump, tensioner, etc - rolling them around to ensure no rough spots or hangups during the rotations.

Brand new power steering pump and pulley, new water pump, air pump turns freely, alternator turns freely, tensioner spins pretty good. Could the spring just be wore out? Most likely is the original tension assembly.

It is generally recommended to replace the tensioner assembly and the idler pulley whenever you change the belt.
