bell rings when lights are on

bell rings when lights are on
1992 f-150 ... While I am driving, if I turn on my headlamps, the bell tone starts ringing the same as it does if you truck is off and the key is removed.
Any ideas on why this is happening during normal driving as well? Just started doing it yesterday.
Thanks

The chime would sound on my 93 when i washed it because the door jamb switch was shorting out when wet, the rubber was worn through. After letting it dry out it would be fine .... but. Just saying it could be something as simple as that. Something is obviously setting it off.

It's hard to say without seeing ALL the truck's options in your signature, but it could be a door switch or the contact in the steering column. Are the hinges loose - if you lift the door's rear edge with it nearly closed, does it clunk? Is it chewing up the strike sleeve?

i never thought about it being the door switch, as there is only a problem with the headlights on. The dome light doesn't stay on as if the door were open.
If it was the door switch, wouldn't I get the tone when the headlights were off as well, and the dome light staying lit? I was thinking it is something in the
ignition switch not telling the headlamps that the ignition is on and no need to ring the bell. That is the only symptom I have, the bell ringing when the headlamps
are on, in any situation.

I've seen this very thing before, there is a contact switch on the ignition key cylinder itself that makes or breaks a circuit when the key is inserted. It's a normally open circuit with key in. That circuit sends a signal to the chime to let you know if you took the key out but left the headlights on. There's two ways to fix it.
Easiest way is to remove the plastic shroud around the column behind the steering wheel and unplug it. Single brown wire, black connector iirc. Other way is to replace the key cylinder and have the tumblers matched to your key. If it were me I'd just unplug it.
