Default Bad PCM

I have a 1992 F150 with 4.9 and E40D. I think the computer is bad because the truck will die at random. Will any PCM from 92-96 work as long as it's from a 4.9, auto?

Pull codes first. It may not be the PMC.

I just went through this. No it won't. The trans matters, there is a code, open the driver door and near the hinge it'll read something like "a2z1" you can call ford and they SHOULD be able to identify it with that. Or, pull the computer and read them the long number that is second to last on the sticker usually starting "f2tz..." My truck is a 92 351 with an e40d trans. I found the superseded number and got it from az for $115. They weren't able to find it with out the updated number from ford though.
