Default bad ground?

my 1996 f150 has starting problems, no spark....will the batter ground being bad (as in my friend touched it and it came apart) cause that? Also my friend put his OBD II comp on to it and it said it was at 6000 RPM...with the truck off. I know a bad ground can screw alot of things up....also he turned the power dist. box upside down....put it back then used jumper calbes for a ground....started the truck up it ran fine. Then i started it and it started smoking from the fuse box arena....any ideas?
