Default Back seat mods

Anyone successfully modified the rear bench in a late 80s / early 90s supercab? I'd like to lift it a couple inches to gain some interior storage space underneath. I'm thinking that lifting the base wouldn't be difficult with the right kind of spacer, but moving the backrest might be more of a challenge.

Any thoughts, suggestions or pictures from people who have tackled it?

Ha - 5 minutes with Google and I found a solution. Here's a firm that fabricates the pieces - kits for 1973 to current models. Anyone using one of their kits? www.lmiwelding.com

Yes, I bought the 3" lift kit for my '94. Works great, simple to install. The seller was great in providing recommendations on which kit to choose too. If you want pics of the kit installed, just let me know.

I chose the 3" kit as recommended by seller. They have a 4" kit too, but that extra inch would have made it a tight squeeze for anyone taller than me (5'11") to sit in the back without hitting their head on the roof.

The only part I had to modify was the upper seat cushion, as it no longer fit in the factory holes once the seat back was raised by the kit.

Genius! I always wanted the ability to throw subs under there if I so decide at a later date, but never thought there would be a legitimate way to go about lifting the back seat. I have to check these out....If you guys have any pics, please share

I should be able to get some pics tonight. The kit is basically angled extension brackets that you install under the two seat mounts, the seat belts and the floor mounted seat latch (if you have one). There is also a new latch for the seat back provided.

Ok, here are the pics as promised. The instructions with the kit are simple to follow.

As mentioned earlier, the only modification I had to make was to the cushion that mounts above the seat back (just below the rear window). Since the seat back gets raised about 3", that cushion no longer fits into the two sets of pre-drilled mounting holes. The seat back also sits out a bit farther with the new brackets installed, so I made a wood spacer that I mounted to the back of the cab with metal screws. I then drilled holes in the wood spacer that lined up with the mounting plugs on the back of the cushion (using only the bottom set of mounting plugs on the cushion), then inserted the plugs into the wood spacer.

A shot of the rear bracket on the driver's side.

The front bracket on the driver's side.

The two brackets for the lap belts.

A view of the passenger side, both brackets installed.

The new latch provided with the kit.

Roughly 5.25" of clearance under seat at front edge.

Wooden spacer for top cushion.

Top cushion installed - you can see the bottom set of pre-drilled holes (that no longer fit).

Top cushion installed, seats in place.

Here's a copy of the sketch provided with the install kit.

Here's a link to my pic site if you want bigger pictures (or a few more) - http://rides.webshots.com/album/5768...js?vhost=rides

I forgot to mention, the kit also provides an extension bracket for the floor mounted seat latch (that locks the bottom of the seat in position), but I didn't bother to install it.
