Automatic Tranny O/D Jolt.. Normal?
My truck has the AOD trans and I haven't been drivin it around as much as I used to lately, but ive been noticing when I get up to 40 or 45mph and let off to get the overdrive to kick in it jolts into gear and isnt very smooth compared to normal gear change. Is this normal or what can I do about it? Also I was wondering about shift kits and how hard they are to install and what kind of improvement it can make. Any help will be greatly appreciated
.

Hey Tay,
I'm a brand new forum member and noticed your post. My 1990 F150 does the very same thing - that "jolt" when you ease up on the throttle to force the o/d shift at about 45 mph. I've had the truck over a year (the original owner was an OLD man and it only had 46k miles when I bought it) so I took it to the local Ford store (very good mechanics) to check and service the trans. They did and it still had the same "jolt" if you lift off the throttle. They swear that nothing is wrong with the transmission and said, "just don't lift off the throttle." So I have been driving in third gear around town or holding the shift to o/d until about 50+ mph. It's as smooth as a baby's bottom then. All the other shifts are very smooth and unnoticeable. It's a great truck and still looks brand new - it had been garage kept all it's life. Good luck with yours. This is my second one, my first F100 was my Dad's 1968 he bought new. I got it in 1988 and drove it 10 more years, got crazy and sold it. Good luck with your truck.
