Alternator Lock Washer
I had a hard time getting the nut off my old alternator to get the pulley for the new one but I finally got it with the help of an impact driver. I didn’t notice if there was a lock washer or not. Now on to the questions… The new rebuilt Motorcraft alternator from RA obviously did not come with a pulley but it did come with a lock washer and a nut. I put the pulley directly against the alternator, then the lock washer, then the nut. So my question is, is that the correct order or should the lock washer go between the alt and the pulley instead? During the long ordeal of removing the pulley my neighbor was helping and accidentally bent a 1” section of the outside rim of the pulley. My belt has now jumped and shredded. I’m planning on replacing the pulley no matter what but I’m not sure if it was the pulley rim being bent or the pulley not being aligned correctly (ie needing that washer for proper spacing) that caused it.
No, it's not obvious - a reman alt generally DOES include the correct pulley for the application it's sold for. Not all of them have a lock washer, but if there is one, it always goes against the fastener to keep it from turning. You DON'T want to keep the pulley from turning relative to the alternator case. Is yours the 2G with external fan?

Or has it been upgraded to the 3G?

I'm nowhere near done with the 351 so I'm in no rush for it. My main concern is keeping the 5.0 running until I can get the 5.8 done. Which makes getting the 5.8 done difficult since the 5.0 is always needing something done to it. Plus when I do the engine swap, I will just sell the 5.0 so I will proabably put the 2G on it for the next guy.
