Alternator experts?
Whew... Good luck man. I would have just spent the $100 or so on an alternator or even went to a junk yard to find a used one and spend $30 rather than take that kind of risk. Remember you are not dealing with a radio or climate controls. You let that thing slip your mind too long once and you either have an electrical fire or a crispy fried ECM.
Na.. If I have any problems it will be not remembering to cut it on and having a dead battery.. And if it gets to be annoying ill just go buy the alternator to go back on it..
Its just with the way my truck alreay is i dont see spending extra money on original parts when i already have somthing that will work going to waste in my garage... Now If my truck was all original parts made for the truck and the harness hadnt already been butchred theres no way I would have done this but this is just one of those red neck die hard trucks.. it was like that when i got it so hey why not?? its already got parts from 2 or 3 f150s a bronco rear end and god knows what else.. why not throw a redneck alternator on there to lol

Have you thought about installing external voltage regulator? It should work better than the manual switch. Alternator output voltage is regulated by brushes voltage adjustment, so you need some regulator with "input" and "output" connected between any wire which gets +12 Volts only with ignition turned on and (+) alternator brushes. We have this sort of devices in our first generation Ladas, so if you find some old Fiat 124 somewhere in the junk yard - this part will be located on the left inner fender, if I remember it right. I guess that Fiat is not the only option for donor vehicle.
Ok.. well I realized somthing today.. I trust myself to not have a regulator on my truck but when my friend amanda asked if she could borrow my truck to take some trash off... I realized I dont trust everyone lol.. I mean This girl cant even check her oil or even change antifreeze on her car.. how the hell am I gonna trust her to cut the alternator off when needed??? lol
So I want to go ahead and throw a external regulator on it..
Anyone know if this will work and if i can wire it up?

The way my alternator is wired right now is 1 ground wire 1 power wire and 1 output wire but theres a couple wires left over that i didnt use so Im not really sure how i would run the wires through the regulator

watch out because when i let my wife drive my truck, she thinks she "owns" the road and she also thinks she can fly around curves.... she learned about the flying around curves real quick lol
Nah.. shes had my truck before.. I let her borrow it all week one time to go to school when some one poured sugar in her gas tank.. shes not much of a speeder/bad driver.. just ditzy i guess is the word..
Do you have a picture of your alternator? Connecting guide should be included to that alternator package. The only thing that confuses me - the number of connectors on that regulator. 2 + grounding is enough - may be 2 more are used for dashboard control lamp?
I dont have a picture of my alternator.. but i could probably find a pic of one like it.. but like i said its only got three post 1 is the ground wire.. 1 is the power wire (the one that gets power when key is turned on..) and then the biggest post is the output wire that goes to the battery..
