Default Air bags code

Airbag light flashes four times, 5 second pause, then flashes four more times, 2 second pause, then repeats. 1996 4.9 auto.trans. 149000 miles. Anyone have an idea what this one could be?

Those second pauses between flashes are a 2 digit code, so in other words sounds like code 44 which is RH air bag sensor and bracket not mounted to vehicle properly. This code usually pops up when there is too much resistance in the circuit from a bad ground.

If the bracket is heavily rusted, disconnect the battery and remove the sensor bracket from the rad support just behind the grill. Clean it and put it back and see if that cleared the code.

Default airbag code

Thanks for the info. I cleaned up brackets and core support. Indicator light still flashes but drivers side sensor is all but gone. Is it a big deal to let this go? I'm not that worried about having air bags.

Well its a safety device so you should probably fix it. Wear your seatbelt! If it makes you feel any better my truck doesn't even have airbags.

Even with the right sensor gone I think the air bag should still be able to deploy but only on the left side now.

2/3 sensors have to be tripped to deploy the airbag so only a drivers side impact or head on would do anything.
