Default Advice Needed - Keep or Scrap

I was asked to help my daughters boyfriend get a 1996 F150 running for him. Truck was given to him by his father. This truck has been sitting since 2007 when it was parked due to numerous engine codes among other issues. (brake lines, calipers, tires - the list goes on). Truck has 112,500 miles on a 5.0 engine.

I am mechanically inclined and have worked on vehicles for years - I just see more trouble and money than the vehice is worth and do not want to sink a lot of money into what I see as a pit.

Please any advice is appreciated - keep or off to the junkyard. Thanks

If you can do the work yourself, you will save alot of money, in my opinion it is worth fixing the truck, considering the body and frame is good, figure 1, or even $2000 to get it running is still better than spending 7,000+ and another payment every month for a new truck, besides our trucks are still going strong as seen on the roads. With the proper repairs and maintenance our trucks will last a long time.

X2 I have used drums on my truck. Didn't have the $100 to get a new set spent $20 on two from the scrap yard.

Make sure he knows that's the best truck he will ever own. Are you picking up the bill? From what I read that's what it sounds like.

Parts are really cheap for these trucks. As long as its not overly rusty its certainly worth fixing. They are straighforward trucks.
I love mine. 1995 302 2wd 185K on the clock. Its an awesome truck and its incredible all the looks I get for an old fairly beat up truck.
