Ive had an issue wear my coil was goin out and my plugs had started to spread and that was causing a ping . What id do to start would be complete tune up with a msd street fire coil . And if it still pings then turn thr distributor back a small bit.

 

Like everybody else has said, make sure your timing is at 10 degrees. Don't try to play with the timing to get it to run better. Your problems are elsewhere.
