Question Advancing the timing

Ok I think that I'm ready to advance the timing on my 89 F150 300 I6 (4.9). I've been reading a few things on here about it but its mostly been on V8's. Should I go to 16*btdc or is it different on a 6 cylinder? Are there any threads that walk you through it on a 6 cylinder?

Question Changes

Do i need to upgrade my coil, plug wires, and gap my plugs before I do the timing? Or can I do the timing and then upgrade the other things later?
