Default adding bigger size tires.

Hello. I'm wanting to put a larger size tires on my truck. it's a 1989 f150 xlt lariat 4x4 stock suspension no lifts no leveling kits. I have the recommended 31/10.50/r15 on it now. My question is would it be ok if I go up to 35/12.50/r15 without having to do a lift? Please any help our advice would be greatly appreciated.

I believe the general idea is that 31s are pretty much the max you can fit on stock suspension. 31s fill up stock height wheel wells very nicely. Im sure Some people have fit 33s under the truck with stock, but I don't think anyone has fit 35s on stock suspension. They would be really cramped and not look so good anyways. It doesn't take much lift to fit them though.

knowing your gear ratio is also very important when thinking about something like this...

35x12.5's require at least 4" of lift, non-factory wheels with negative offset, and probably removing the bumper valance and perhaps spacing the bumper out and up.

And like midnight said, gears matter too. I don't think I would even consider 35's unless I had at least 4:10's. And I doubt I'd even consider it unless I had a 5.8L. But that's me.

even if you had the lift to fit 35s, with a straight six and 3.55s thats not a good idea. 31x10.5s are good for what you have. i have them with a 4.9 and i probably wouldnt consider going any higher. they dont look small on mine even with 3 inches of lift.

Thanks I'll stick with 31s I really do like how they look. Perhaps I'll go with a more aggressive tire.

thats what i plan on doing. an aggressive tire changes the whole look of the truck. my buddies got an old cherokee with no lift but he slapped some little bfg all terrain ko2s on it and it looks sweet

Nice I was looking online and found some in Walmart, they've got Goodyear wrangler authority all terrains for a buck 38 they're 31s and will fit 15 inch wheels. Not to bad if you ask me
