about to purchase a 1995 F150

Shocks are super simple on this truck. I did springs and shocks by myself in the driveway. They say you don't need a compressor for the spring but I did (only weigh 150lbs and by myself so couldn't get the spindle pushed down far enough).
Doing just the shock, frame on jack stand, unbolt the old one, bolt the bottom of the new one, then jack the arm up until you can bolt the top in. Took more time to jack the truck up and drop it on a stand and remove tire then it did to swap out the shock. Might as well do the rear shocks also, cheap and even easier-did it laying under the truck without jacking or removing anything besides the old shock.

You should be able to narrow each type down by year, bed style, and bed length of your truck. I always wanted the kind with the door in the back (with cut-out tailgate) instead of the double gates.
