Doing just the shock, frame on jack stand, unbolt the old one, bolt the bottom of the new one, then jack the arm up until you can bolt the top in. Took more time to jack the truck up and drop it on a stand and remove tire then it did to swap out the shock. Might as well do the rear shocks also, cheap and even easier-did it laying under the truck without jacking or removing anything besides the old shock.
thank you for the walkthru. I have one more question.. I'm trying to find a camper shell but I'm not sure what kind is compatible with my particular truck. I guess I just need to measure the length and width of the bed. There are so many types of shells, and many different terms for them too. truck cap, camper shell, etc. I like the ones that are flush with the roof of the cab, like just regular square shaped. Any suggestions on what to look for?

You should be able to narrow each type down by year, bed style, and bed length of your truck. I always wanted the kind with the door in the back (with cut-out tailgate) instead of the double gates.
