96 XL 3,000 miles a year for 19 years
Just bought a donor truck today - a 96 XL 302HO / E4OD with 90,000 kilometers on it (that's a Canadian thing - converts to about 56,000 miles).
I was going to drop a high miler 302 at the rebuilders to be bored out etc.(because I want a FRESH driveline in my 95) but I just found this, interior's mint, he tried to take real good care of it but it's a little rusty in all the wrong places so it was dirt cheap.
I'm hoping to get it torn down on the weekend, I'm kinda anxious (and hopeful) to get a look at the inside of that motor.
Guy had it since new - who only drives 3000 miles a year ?

I do, because I have 4 Vehicles, so its only used for my serious hauling and snow. I and the wife put about 3-4K a year on any vehicle, except the scooter. She does have a 5 mile commute, that helps.

x2 on the multiple vehicle = low mileage. My mother-in-law is trying to sell her 03 F250 6.0 Turbo Diesel with 37,000 miles on it. They bought it to haul a camper, along with a brand new camper, then her husband died. The camper got used 4-5 times and that's the only time the truck has ever pulled anything. Usually it gets driven to the store once a week, if that, just when she needs more groceries than she can fit in her Firebird or Festiva.
My GF hates driving, her last car was a little Saturn SC2 that we got with 120,000 miles, had it for 8 years, only has 145,000 miles on it now.
Nice find though Chris, to bad there aren't any hidden gems like that here, well in my price range anyway.

Well, here it is in all it's glory....
This side of the box isn't too bad, a couple bubbles on the wheel well
This side is not so nice, wheel well's gone. left the building....
This box though, the wheel wells are bad but the rest of the box is mint everywhere.
And that cap is only 2 years old. Too bad I don't like caps.
And of course the interior looks like nobody ever sat in it.
So that's the $500 beater. I felt bad for the guy, i would have liked to offer more, but you'd have to see the rust- rad saddle, fender bottoms, door bottoms, door sills, cab corners and of course the box wheel wells. I looked at it a month ago and told him to take the cap and stereo off I'll pay 500. Came back a month later and just asked how he was making out. still here, take it away. He took his stereo, left the cap.
I imagine I can sell that cap off for 250, and it's got 3 month old exhaust from the manifolds to the tailpipe, including 2 new cats - that's probably worth 250, so a little labour + I'll have a low mileage motor to do up for basically nothing. Score !!!

I missed a 92 xcab 5.8 a couple of months ago with 40k miles on it. The guy wanted to sell it and the dash had cracked and interior faded from being parked in the driveway for years. One trip to the grocery store every few weeks. He had all new interior installed, new dash, carpet, seats and sun visors. He documented every oil change. Dated the belt and hoses with a silver marker. Every receipt was in the glove box including the sales paperwork from the dealer and the build sheet. By the time I made it to the bank and back, the truck was gone. $4500.
