Default 96 trans issue

have a 96 2 wd 6cyl that is slipping between 1st and 2nd and second into third...when it goes into 3rd ..it slams in hard and i can feel the tourqe on the u joints.....my option at the moment is to replace the 2 speed sensors..(one in the pan and one out)...replace fluid ,filter and gasket for a cost of approx 350 bucks...with no idea if it were the sensors in the first place and not knowing if it is internal damage..the truck is okay as far as body and engine(seal leak minor) and starts and runs fine...has over 230,000 miles....so what i guess i am asking is...is it worth the risk to spend the 350 on the above and risk wasting time and money or just call it quits and send it the grave yard...personally i would rather put the 350 towrds replacing the truck..but the wife wants me to risk the cash... ps my son drives the truck to his job and needs a vehicle to keep the job......what would you do in my shoes?..do u think the above may correct the problem?..thanks for any input

A rebuilt tranny is cheaper than a new truck. But will cost more than $350.
I'd keep her running.
