Default 94 V8 starting issues

my truck: 1994 Ford F-150 5.8L V8

okay so this has been happening since i first bought the truck. when starting the truck sometime itll just click and the starter will not sound and it may do this a couple times till it finally cranks. but i know the issue is not the starter because when it does crank, it starts quick and the starter has a good strong sound to it. doing further research, i beleive its the starter solenoid but im really not sure. what can i do to diagnose this? another thing weird about the this problem is sometimes it'll fire up right away if i hold the brake pedal down. not really sure why but it helps on occasion.

thanks
Bill

Clean all your Pos & Neg connections down to clean metal even if they look "ok" (including terminals), then re-secure tightly. A coat of dialectic grease will discourage re-occurrence.
