94 f150 inline6. Tapping from engine bay only when accelerating.
Id appreciate any wisdom on this issue. I've been driving the truck daily for years. On the past few days its begun to tap while I'm driving. The tapping only happens while I accelerate, not while keeping speed or idling.i have changed the oil and filter, I just cleaned the fuel injectors, changed o rings and pintles (plastic top)and replaced most of the vacuum hoses. It seems quieter but is still there. My muffler is rusted out, ive heard exhaust issues can cause it but my knowledge is very spotty. Any help is appreciated.
Not that it will help, but did you also change the filter baskets?
Anyway, does it change at all with speed changes? Does it happen at any acceleration? In other words, does it do it taking off from a dead stop, until you reach a certain speed? Does it do it when you go from 40MPH to say 50 and stop when you let off the gas? Does it get faster as you go faster? How about changes with RPM changes?

I did not change the filter baskets, didn't know what they were till just now.
The tapping is audible at any speed if I accelerate moderately or quickly. But if I accelerate very slowly being gentle on the pedal there's no tapping noise. I can rev it while parked and there is no tapping noise at all. This last bit is what really confuses me.
