I believe that is a tone ring, either for VSS or ABS or both. Somebody might know for sure.

Damn, I wasn't trying to start an argument. Just trying to educate y'all.

BTW, I a very well known for using GM 4-Pin ignition modules on Duraspark distributer... I've been doing this for a very long time...... I've also been known to replace the old low amperage Alternators on our beloved Fords with high amperage internally regulated GM alternators.... no need to do that anymore as Ford finally gave us a good alternator.

HEI is a registered trademark of GM but it is one you could probably get away with using because it ALSO Means Hall Effect Ignition.
You may think you know what you're talking about but you do not. It does not ALSO mean hall effect ignition, it's high energy ignition. Just because it has that sensor doesn't mean it's called that.

First off. My post was a gentle nudge to do the right thing. It was not intended to point any fingers and was not an attack. An attack would have been this statement:

Fordtrucknut, you stole that from Offroading.com. You should be ashamed of yourself.

But that is not what I did. You girlfriends on the other hand decided they were going to police me. So, a pissing match ensued and the whole thing got drug out.

Posting it under the username Fordtrucknut with no credit to where you got it implies ownership.

Secondly, The quoted disclaimer says nothing about permission to use material from offroading.com's site. It says if you roll your offroader and break your neck it is not their fault.

In RED and underlined so EVERYBODY will see it I am sorry if I offended anyone. My posting style sometimes gets taken the wrong way. It is my intent to help, but if I see something that is blatantly wrong, I'm going to say something. As an example....One moron on this site advises a guy to place wooden block and cinder blocks under his jackstands. That is inherently dangerous AND NOBODY SAID A WORD to the contrary.

I came here to share some of my knowledge. I've owned, driven and modified Ford trucks for 35 years and I have learned allot. I also came here to learn something from you guys.

Allot of what I see here is wrong. It is wrong to give somebody the wrong advice. Wrong info causes people to spend time and money needlessly and in some cases it can get people killed or hurt. If you don't really know, don't post.
If I see something wrong, I'll say so. If you want to challenge me that is fine, I'll provide proof, but don't get your panties in a wad because I corrected you

I've also seen some very good information here. Fordtrucknut especially has some great posts
.

I am unsubscribing from this thread because I really don't want to fight with you guys.

So please....tell me about your electronics background.

The more common usage is in reference to GM's Ignition System. That doesn't mean it is the only usage. What would a bunch of non-car nut electronics geeks call an Ignition System that uses a Hall Effect Sensor if they were looking for an acronym? Ummm.... think hard there Mr. Chong.......

IBM = International Business Machines

OR

IBM = International Brotherhood of Magicians

And since you know so much about electronics...... What electronic component would be used for filtering and as a DC Blocker? Go ahead, you can use google.

Oh, so your not confused...DC is not MOPAR's Trademark for Direct Connection.....it is the acronym us geeks use for Direct Current.

Just sayin.....Jeez

Don't get all pissed off because you're wrong. Take it like a man. I don't care about any of that other crap you posted because I don't know about it, but I do know HEI stands for high energy ignition and have plenty of GM experience to know it's correct. Tell a GM guy it stands for hall effect igntion and watch him laugh his ***** off too.
