Default 92 f150 HELP

I bought a 1992 f150 engine 5.8
And now coming into some problems. Here we go first when starting up it idles high even after driving for awhile I turn it off and start back up and it still idles high for a minute then it goes back down.
When driving coming to a stop it feels like it had a misfire and it's becoming annoying I thought I get use to it but 6 months later no luck. Now this next issue it seems to get worst, when I try to floor it or even try to pass up an old folk on freeway truck won't go anywhere it seems as I am towing. What I did notice it has some strong exhaust fumes when in park.
Any help greatly appreciated and sorry for the long boring story.

Probably a couple things going on. Your job, should you chose to accept it, is figure out what they are. I would buy a fuel pressure gauge to check fuel pressure at the fuel rail, & a OBD1 code Reader to find sensors that may be pooched or out of range.

Then there's "the quality of maintenance/ upkeep (or lack thereof). Last time tuned, condition of ignition system components, checked for Vac leaks, IAC & EGR cleaned?

OBD1 code reader ($22.77):http://www.handsontools.com/Equus-In...ol_p_5574.html

Cleaning your IAC (elbow grease/ some say afterward: Priceless!)

Any other ideas. Neighbor says it might be the cats. Does this sound correct to anyone?

cats do get clogged overtime, but the chances of that are kinda slim

check all your sparkplug wires at the cap and plugs

i recently swaped a 5speed into my 89 and when taking the auto tranny out a plug wire came undone and i didnt know it took it for a drive and when i would floor it, it went no where and my stock manifolds actually got bright red

the high idle problem is most likely the iac either clean or replace it

other than that i cant really help you much and

Possible. More common if it's had a steady diet of higher than 87 octane fuel &/ or a miss is allowed to exist for a long period, &/or fuel pressure regulator has failed.

You can take a remove the O2 ahead of the cat & take a pressure read. I believe over 3 psi is considered "back pressured". The problem is usually worse after norm op temp is reached.

You can temporarily remove the senor & drive w/ it out. It will trigger a CEL, but would relieve any back pressure condition while it's out.

I found the ground cable connected to the chassis and the hanging from there. Can this cause some of the problems I'm having?
