The ZF does not have a bellhousing that can be interchanged. Thus you need one that will bolt up to the small block ford pattern.

To make things more complicated - it has to come from a truck with the same drivetrain as yours....so if you have 4WD you need one from a 4WD. The 4WD tranny has a shorter tailshaft and its output housing is designed to bolt on a transfer case for 4WD.

Oh ok. That’s makes sense. What do you think is a fair price to pay for one?

They are becoming harder and harder to find in good condition - I would say if you can find one for $500 in good used condition you have found a deal. But expect to pay more. Probably closer to 2k for a rebuilt one. And don't forget about driveshafts, etc. If have an automatic and converting to manual, the driveshaft length both front and rear will be different.

I found one about 3 hrs from where I live. Still attached to a motor that I don’t want and I haven’t told the kid yet a for sure answer. He says nothing is wrong with it and the only reason he only has it is because the truck pretty much rusted out and was bad. I’ll try to get a photo up of it
