My father-in-law recently inherited a 1987 F150 with the 5.8. His dad owned it and as far we know had been driving it prior to his passing. It sat for a few months before his uncle tried to start it and it caught fire because the wiring had gotten chewed up. Coolant reservoir, power steering, and a couple other things got burned up, but it looks repairable and the interior of the truck is in pretty good shape. I have acquired most of the parts needed to revive it, minus the main wiring harness that started the fire. I drive an '87 myself, but it is a 4.9 and thus fuel injected. I am looking for information as to where I could find the applicable wiring for this one year of carb for this generation of F150. Having a hard time matching up another '87 with the 5.8. Would pre-87 wiring or EFI wiring minus the fuel part work? Any help guidance would be greatly appreciated!

 

I don't think any other years will work without a good bit of modification. You can try and call around local junkyards to see if anybody has one, or go to car-part.com and do a nationwide search.
The other option is to try and repair the old harness.
