Default 86 302 mods

Ok my name is austin im new here Im buying an 86 f150 2wd with a 302 aod trans ive come across a few posts just browsing the net before i become a member so not all questions were answered. My first question is I would like to CHange it over to maf because i plan on putting a new top end on it. If someone could tell me everything i need for that i would appreciate it. Second Whats the best intake manifold that will fit the stock heads anything up to 500 $ and preferaby an intake that will work with new heads in the future. I have to basically do one thing at a time bc I dont have a ton of money to throw in just a couple hundred bucks every paycheck so im planning on a piece at a time. Next I seen that these blocks were only reliable up to 500 hp is that true? why so low compared to the chevy 350 if it is Im just curious thanks.

it all depends on the builder and how deep your pocket is 500hp is the average output on the 302s the 350 small block has alot more aftermarket parts for it as well so its more popular in that aspect but if you really want a 500hp+ beast you just need to dig a bit more for the 302s or so im told

You will need the ecu, engine harness, you could find the top end from an explorer, they have the mass air\gt 40 heads and intake, a maf conversion is also available, but shop around for the best price, and the 302 is just as durable as the 350. It depends how they are prepared, there are alot of 500+ hp stock block 302 engines.

He is also comparing a 302 to a 350 instead of a 351 to a 350. Chevys equivalent would be the 305 not the 302.

the 350 is a small block right the 302 the 351s are short blocks aren't they so a 454 and the 429 would be the same deal for big block and long blocks right.

Yes but I believe piston size is different. Some correct me if I am wrong...... I do not know Chevys that well. The 305 is also a small block.

Actually 454 and 460 is closer.

well i know the 350 small block has a 2 bolt and 4 bolt main the 4 bolts can take more of a beating im not sure if that's the same for ford blocks i think ford just makes them all like 4 bolt mains LOL

Yeah they do makes things much easier to work on. Working on a Chevy is like kissing your sister and if it is a new Chevy it is like kissing her butt.
