Default 5 speed or E4OD?

I have a 90' Ford with the e4od in it but this is my second transmission and sooner or later I'm sure it'll need replacing so I'm contemplating doing a 5 speed. Would it be worth it to just have the trans rebuilt with a kit better then stock and add a shift kit? I read up on some problems with the e4od and most of it lye's in the pump and I did find a pump correction kit. Really I just need either to be reliable but I'm also looking towards the future when I get older I'm not sure whether I'd wanna shift gears and all lol Opinions and taste do change over time. I do plan on doing a mild engine rebuild on the inline 300 when i get the money. Stock power i think it at 145 but I want to get it to at least 200 so I'm also factoring that into what would be best. Still can't make my mind up haha any thoughts? I plan on doing this next spring/summer

The c6 family (C6, E4OD, 4R100) were considered medium to heavy duty transmissions. If I remember correctly the M5OD was considered a light to medium duty depending on application. The M5OD-R1 was light and meant for cars, rangers, or other small vehicles. The M5OD-R2 was medium and meant for f-series trucks, full size vans, broncos, etc.

I know both are good transmissions and everyone here beats the hell out of both. I would stay with the E4OD personally, maybe go for the 4R100 since its basically just a durability upgrade for the E4OD.

If you haven't already done so, try upgrading your ATF. I've found in my experience, E4ODs are sensitive to ATF choice. Especially budget brand ATFs.

I love manual trannys but your going to go through A LOT of work to swap the trannys out, and alot of money getting a master cylinder the tranny itself and all the other parts necessary.

I actually did spend the money and bought the synthetic ATF and I also added lucus to it and its held up extremely well but I'm still afraid I'll be stranded again like I was with the first trans haha I got the trans in the truck now from a junk yard

Applications:

1999–2004 Ford Lightning (F-150 SVT)
2002–2003 Ford F-150 Harley-Davidson Edition
1999–2003 Ford F-150 7700 Series (LEV - Low Emmissions Vehicles only)
1999–2003 Ford Super Duty
1999–2003 Ford Expedition (with 5.4 V-8)
2000–2003 Ford Excursion
1997–2004 Ford E-Series

I would make sure it'll fit your engine too, even though its basically the E4OD the bell housing might not match up.

Quick search shows its not a direct bolt in. I would just get an e4od and get the internals upgraded.

Alright sweet, and I bought a techs manual on how to rebuild that e4od so if i do find a 4r100 and it would bolt to my 4.9 I wanna do a rebuild cuz the e4od i have now was a junkyard trans and I got lucky really and I woulda loved to do a rebuild but at the time i needed to get it up and running. Really my question is are that really that similar? Iv'e learned alot by reading the techs manual on the e4od, it broke down everything into sub assembly's , step by step on how to take apart everything and put it together again.

Damn alright I'll just spend the extra money but I'm sure it'll be worth it. Thanks for your help!
